FASTRAK TOLL TAGS

FasTrak offers three types of toll tags: standard FasTrak, FasTrak Flex, and FasTrak CAV.

Standard FasTrak

The standard FasTrak toll tag works at all toll bridges and in all Bay Area express lanes, and it also can be used to pay for parking at San Francisco International Airport.

If you have a standard FasTrak toll tag, it will continue to work, and you don't need to get another tag unless you want to travel toll free as a carpool or motorcycle in express lanes or get a clean air vehicle (CAV) discount.

FasTrak Flex

The FasTrak Flex toll tag has a three-position switch to signal whether you are traveling alone or as a carpool. The FasTrak Flex toll tag works at all toll bridges and in all Bay Area express lanes, and it also can be used to pay for parking at San Francisco International Airport.

A FasTrak Flex toll tag is required for carpools, motorcyles, and eligible CAVs^* to travel toll free in the I-580, I-680 Contra Costa, and SR-237 express lanes.

If you do not use express lanes as a carpool, motorcycle, or eligible CAV, a standard FasTrak toll tag will serve all your needs. The vast majority of FasTrak users only need a standard FasTrak toll tag.

FasTrak CAV

The FasTrak CAV toll tag is only issued to eligible clean air vehicles and is required for discounted single-occupant CAV travel in the SR-237 express lanes. The FasTrak CAV toll tag also has a three-position switch to signal whether you are traveling alone or as a carpool. The FasTrak CAV toll tag works at all toll bridges and in all Bay Area express lanes, and it also can be used to pay for parking at San Francisco International Airport.

When traveling as a single-occupant vehicle in the SR-237 express lanes, eligible CAVs will receive a 50% discount off the toll if they use a FasTrak CAV toll tag. It is the only toll tag that will communicate the correct discount to roadside equipment.

How to Use the FasTrak Flex Toll Tag

Before your trip, set the switch on the toll tag to match the number of people in the vehicle. If you are traveling as a carpool, motorcycle, or eligible CAV^*, set the switch to position 2 or position 3+ to signal that you qualify for toll-free or discounted travel in express lanes.

At toll bridges, you must travel in the designated carpool lanes to receive the discounted toll regardless of the switch position.^†

How to Use the FasTrak CAV Toll Tag

Before your trip, always set the switch on the toll tag to match the number of people in the vehicle. Tolling equipment will automatically recognize and apply any discounts you are eligible for.

At toll bridges, you must travel in the designated carpool lanes to receive the discounted toll regardless of the switch position.^†

^{*In the SR-237 express lanes, eligible CAVs do not qualify as a carpool unless they meet the minimum occupancy requirements for a carpool. Drivers must set the switch to position 1 when traveling as a single occupant. We recommend the FasTrak CAV toll tag for eligible CAVs driving in the SR-237 express lanes. Drivers using a FasTrak CAV toll tag will receive a 50% discount when traveling as a single occupant.}

Exchanging Your FasTrak Toll Tag

If you have a standard FasTrak toll tag and need to exchange it for a FasTrak Flex, you can do it online or by phone.

Online

Log in to your FasTrak account. Click on "Vehicles & Tags," then "Order A Toll Tag." Enter the number of FasTrak Flex toll tags you would like to order and complete the process to submit your order.

You can return your standard toll tag to the Customer Service Center in person or by mail. If you are mailing a toll tag, we recommend that you use certified or registered mail to ensure delivery. However, if you wish, you also can put the toll tag into the mail without an envelope or postage. The mailing address is already written on the toll tag and the post office will deliver the toll tag to us.

By phone

Call our Customer Service Center and tell them you want to exchange your standard toll tag for a FasTrak Flex. Provide the toll tag number of the standard toll tag you will be returning so that we can deactivate it. We will mail a FasTrak Flex toll tag and a prepaid return envelope to you. Please put your standard toll tag into the envelope and mail it back to us.

Toll Tag Security Deposit

The toll tag you order may require a security deposit. When the Customer Service Center receives a toll tag back from you, we will adjust your security deposit accordingly.

If you would like to exchange a standard FasTrak or FasTrak Flex toll tag for a FasTrak CAV toll tag, you must apply for the FasTrak CAV toll tag here and return your current toll tag to the Customer Service Center in person or by mail.
